Healthy Soil
The land possesses an incredible ability to heal and provide abundantly for all who call it home—whether microbes, plants, wildlife, livestock, or people. However, over the past few centuries, humans have subjected the land to chemical and mechanical practices that have caused significant harm. We've witnessed extreme soil erosion, dust storms reminiscent of the Dust Bowl, the inhumane treatment of animals in confinement, and the collapse of vital ecosystem functions. Yet, visionary individuals have shown us that there is an alternative way to restore and nurture the land.
This approach, known as regenerative agriculture, involves aligning agricultural practices with the natural rhythms of the ecosystem. In our arid mountain valley, this means utilizing livestock as a tool to enhance soil fertility. Historically, large migratory herds of ruminants roamed the area, ensuring even grazing, widespread fertilization through manure and urine, and hoof action that promoted seed germination—all while allowing for long recovery periods. We replicate this natural process with our livestock and have already observed improvements in soil health, plant vigor, and biodiversity.
Additionally, we have diversified our livestock, raising cattle alongside chickens, laying hens, turkeys, and pigs, all of which roam on pasture. We also host honey bee colonies to help pollinate our pastures. Through regenerative agriculture, we've learned that when the soil is healthy, a trophic cascade occurs, improving ecosystem functions across the board. On our ranch, we’re already seeing these benefits: improved soil function, greater plant diversity, a thriving population of dung beetles, abundant birdlife, flourishing wildlife, and healthy livestock.

Healthy Food
Food has the power to nourish, heal, and restore our bodies and overall well-being. However, over the past few centuries, as destructive agricultural practices took hold, wholesome, local, seasonal food has been replaced by industrial, processed food-like products that lack their natural nourishing benefits. The rise in chronic illnesses can largely be traced to the consumption of ultra-processed food-like substances.
The remarkable truth about regenerative agriculture is that as we restore the land through thoughtful practices, the food grown on that land is also restored to its original, healing properties for our bodies. It all begins with healthy soil that supports diverse, vigorous plant communities, which in turn provide energy and medicine for the animals. When we consume these animals and products raised on our regenerative ranch, we benefit from the rich phytochemicals found in their meat and fat.
Throughout history, we’ve always understood that life and death are interconnected—one must give way for the other. We ensure our animals live fulfilling lives, full of sunshine, physical activity, and fresh forage. In turn, through their death, we receive new life in our bodies. We are deeply grateful for this reciprocal process.
